Released in May 1999, "Manatsu no Kousen" was the 5th single by Morning Musume. It reached number 3 on the Oricon charts (and this was before their popularity boomed with "Love Machine").
The song title roughly translates as "A ray of light in midsummer" - this is a very positive and bouncy song, and the harmonies and big-band disco sounds make for a very epic summer song.
The video shows scenes of bubbles, hawaiian beaches and all the members driving along in a convertible (kind of cheesy nowadays, but remember this was made for the Japanese market in the 90's).
Overall, the whole concept is very cute - I like to look back at the various stages of Morning Musume and see how much fashion and of course the lineup has changed. Especcially now that MM have just released their 51st single, there's a lot of musical history to look back on!
