So last week, we blogged about Berryz new double A-side single - "Otona na no yo! / 1-Oku 3-Senman Sou Diet Oukoku".
"1-Oku 3-Senman sou Diet Oukoku" is a slow-paced dance track that is very heavy with electronic music and dubstep effects - it definitley sounds edgy and Berryz' vocals blend well with this kind of effect.
However, like "Otona na no yo!", the actual song lyrics are second-rate and not in keeping with the group's stylish image. "1-Oku 3-Senman sou Diet Oukoku" roughly translates to "Diet Kingdom of 130 million" - the lyrics have Berryz singing about dieting and the whole of Japan being on a diet... and in typical Hello Project fashion, it's all somehow linked to a romance story. Not exactly inspiring or artistic lyrics, but perhaps this song about diets will get noticed for being quirky.
Personally, I wasn't very impressed with "Otona na no yo!" and hoped that at least the MV for "1-Oku 3-Senman sou Diet Oukoku" would be better styled! It looks like my prayers were answered - "1-Oku 3-Senman sou Diet Oukoku" is at least redeemed by a high-quality, dynamic dance video. The members are well-styled, and the costumes are nicely tailored to the individual girls whilst retaining a uniform look for Berryz Koubou. I'm really liking Sugaya Risako's hair colour and Shimizu Saki's cute twin-tails! The futuristic, metallic costumes suit this song well, and I think this is a really good image for the group at the moment.
Despite the subject matter of "1-Oku 3-Senman sou Diet Oukoku", the song is edgy and Berryz Koubou look really stylish. Overall, it's a very unusual song but like "Otona na no yo!" I'm not sure it really suits the striking, artistic image that a maturing, fashionable group like Berryz deserve.
Berryz Koubou's new double A-side will be their 34th single and is set for release on the 19th February.
