If you're a fan of j-pop then you probably have heard of AKB48. These guys are extremely popular. And I mean EXTREMELY popular. They are one of the highest selling musical acts in the world at the moment.
Their newest single is called UZA, and below you'll find my fresh review and a link to the video!

The video starts with a quiet shot of the girls. It has a spooky feel and the lighting in the video is dim at best with a few lamps here and there. Well, the video was released on Halloween, so I guess it is well themed.
You immediately get the sense that something is awry as you watch the video and soon enough you get shots of the girls on puppet strings in doll-like dresses with a slight Victorian style.
Considering the nature of japan's performing industry, I don't think puppet strings really set a good tone for AKB48 in this new video. I think it draws attention to perhaps the secret feelings of the Director about the performers themselves. Or maybe I'm reading too much into this!
At any rate, the costumes are really well thought out and individualized for the members included in the video.
You don't get the sense of any story in the video and the lyrics themselves don't lend themselves to any story within a video in my opinion. It's entertaining, with fast cuts , smooth costumes and very sharp, crisp choreography, but other than that this video lacks that special something that could have made it another smash for AKb48.
One thing I'm confused about is the fact that the music itself is quite catchy, but lackluster in some ways. I start to really like the song when the bridge hits, but the overall effect is that this song will get easily lost in the sea that is music and doesn't stand out enough or break any musical boundaries.
Now for the scores!
