The music video for Morning Musume 14's new song "Kimi no Kawari wa Iyashinai" has been unveiled!
This special song is also the official cheer song for the 2014 Winter Olympics Japanese team and so it can be assumed that this single will be getting a lot of attention.
"Kimi no Kawari wa Iyashinai" (No-one can replace you) is one of three songs which make up the group's 55th triple A-side single - you can also see the music videos for the other songs "Egao no Kimi wa Taiyou sa" and "What is LOVE?" on this blog.
"Kimi no Kawari wa Iyashinai" is a hard-hitting, energetic track with a lot of electronic effects, which is especially noticeable in the vocals. Whereas, "Egao no Kimi wa Taiyou sa" was a much gentler, cute song, "Kimi no Kawari wa Iyashinai" really adds the feisty, cool attitude to the triple A-side single. The lyrics are typically Tsunku - combining inspirational lyrics about work-ethic with romantic feelings for a cool guy. I like the "Spirit of Japan" lyrics - obviously this is perfect for a cheer song, but it also makes for a particularly feisty Momosu song.
Visually, the music video is a little more simplistic compared to "Egao no Kimi wa Taiyou sa", but it's certainly vibrant and the formation choreography is so fast-paced that the dance shots don't need extra embellishment. You can see the red and white flag colours in the background which is really fitting considering it's a national cheer song. The members look great in the close-ups and although the costumes are not my favourite... they do look cool.
I think that all the members were really well utilised in this song. In particular, Sayashi Riho, Ishida Ayumi and Oda Sakura definitely stand out as a winning combination of talented aces in this video.
Overall, "Kimi no Kawari wa Iyashinai" is really catchy and the "Nippon!" (Japan) chant adds a very memorable element to the track. Personally, this is my favourite song from the new single.
Morning Musume 14's 55th single is set for release on January 29th.
