The music video for Itano Tomomi's 5th solo single "little" has been revealed!
"little" is her first single to be released since Itano graduated from AKB48 last year, and so I've been excited to see what direction she is taking as a solo artist. After seeing sneak peeks of the MV, I became really excited about "little"!
The music video is actually quite dark and features a lot of spooky stuff > there's a lot of references to eyes and anyone who's seen the film "Pan's Labyrinth" is going to notice some similiarities! The theatrical style and the costumes reminds me a lot of some of Hamasaki Ayumi's music videos - it really gives Itano Tomomi a "cool" appeal.
The song itself is quite slow-paced, but the dramatic chorus gives the song a lot more tension and Itano's voice really juxtaposes with this heavy sound. It seems that Itano is experimenting with a much more serious style to shake off her ditsy AKB48 sound. Although Itano is not a strong singer, her voice shows off a little bit more depth in this ballad - however, I think that a softer RnB sound would suit her range and vocal ability a lot better.
Personally, I really like the artistic direction in the music video and I think it's a brilliant debut outside of AKB48, but whether Itano Tomomi can pull off the vocal requirements to continue with these kind of songs remains to be seen.
The new single is set for release on Feburary 5th in Japan, until then you can check out the short version of the music video for "little" below:
