This single is interesting. Over the past couple of years, I haven’t rated C-ute very highly as I felt a lot of their songs were a bit “samey”. However, I actually I like “Aitai Aitai Aitai na” a lot more than I expected. Although the standard C-ute whiney/baby vocals are present in parts, the song is surprisingly cool and dark. Towards the end of the song, the Gothic music and foreboding chanting (followed by a kick-ass guitar solo) was very impressive and fitted the general coolness and energy of the song as a whole. Although I can’t stand some of the nasal vocals, I have to admit that C-ute all sound good together and that the higher voices fit the mood of the song very well (esp. Airi & Maimi).
The music video was a bit predictable, but at least there was a bit more going on than just a dance shot, i.e. Airi running up some stairs. I really like the solo shots in the video – each girl was in a different location which added some variety. The dance itself was refined and sophisticated, which really emphasises C-utes more grown-up, classy image. The camera shots and movements during the dance shots were good quality and very cool. As for the costumes, they look casual yet classy enough for a mature and classical song but there’s enough pastel colours and chiffon to retain a cute/youthful look. Overall, the quality of the music video was outstanding and it was nice to see a bit of variety in an HP video.
Overall: 7.5/10 Music: 7/10 Costume: 7/10 Dance: 8/10 Music Video: 8/10
