This is the first Berryz song in a while that I really like. At first I was sceptical about how this was going to turn out, I had already heard the original thai-version “Row mah sing” by Bird and I couldn’t imagine that the song could be covered well by Berryz. But they did a really good job – the song is extremeley catchy, energetic and still retains links to it’s Thai origins yet is cute and contemporary enough for a girl group.
Risako and Momoko’s warbling solos sound fantastic (I don’t normally like Momo’s voice) and reminded me of traditional Thai singing. As for the music video, the dancing and costumes were also reminiscent of traditional Thailand but cute and contemporary enough for Berryz. They aren’t my favourite costumes ever, but they’re certainly a lot better than Berryz normally get. The backdrop and the effects were tasteful, bright and good quality. My only problem with the music video is that it is another standard HP dance video, and it gets a bit monotonous after a few views. The “flash-mob” version of the video is refreshingly different to what we have come to expect from Upfront, and although it could have been filmed better, it makes a good rival for the official music video. It seems a lot of promotion has paid-off for this single, as it has been fairly successful. Personally, I think this is one of Berryz best songs in a long time, and since it’s so catchy it deserves to stand out as a notable hit in their discography.
