Fairly recently, through the amazing internetz, I met Alyssa messenger. She is an artist who I feel has a unique style with interesting influences.
She was gracious enough to agree to do a piece for Hachimitsu2 and also agreed to an interview :3.

Q: Could you tell us your name (or psuedonym) and a bit about yourself?
A: My name is Alyssa Messenger (Soon to be Mrs Alyssa Diamond in April 2014!) I like in New York, in the United States. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember and I went to school for Animation in Philadelphia
Q: Where do you get your inspiration?
A: I get my inspiration from everything the surrounds me. Music I listen to plays a huge part. I create characters and stories and they inspire me, as well, to draw more and create new pieces.
Q: How would you define your style?
A: I would define my style these days a little more closely to western comic books than anything else. I am trying to branch out with the sort of styles I can do, which does keep changing what style I default to. For a while I mostly drew anime styles but in college my professors hated seeing student draw in anime style so I had to force myself to try styles very different from that. I worked with western comic books and, while my style isn't spot on, I feel it's closer to that style now.
Q: Do you like anime? And, if so, what is your favourite?
A: I love anime and it is extremely hard for me to pick a favorite. I'll see something new and then I'll fall in absolute love with it. I'm the same way with manga and video games, too. There are so many stories and styles that I don't think I could settle on just one. A few I like a lot are: Paranoia Agent, Samurai Champloo, Petshop of Horrors, Cowboy Bebop, 12 Kingdoms, Higurashi, Mushishi, and a bunch others. For video games, I adore Silent Hill, it's my all time favorite. For manga, anything by Junji Itou I just adore.
